What this site actually does
Fake Updates is a personal, noncommercial entertainment website by Aviad Ofek. It displays fictional update screens, error screens, BIOS interfaces, terminal output and other visual simulations for humor, parody, demonstrations and personal experimentation. It is not a news service, an operating system update service, a security product or a technical diagnosis. Displayed progress, errors, addresses, commands and scan results are staged visual content. They must not be treated as evidence that a real update, intrusion, scan or fault is occurring.
No real updates or attacks
The simulation pages do not install operating system updates or execute the terminal commands that they display. Opening an entertainment screen does not give the site remote control of your computer. The website still loads page assets and third-party services described below; this notice does not claim that using the website creates no network requests at all. Never enter real passwords, access tokens or confidential information into a simulated screen.
Use only with permission
Use the site on your own device or with the informed permission of its owner and relevant users. Do not use it to impersonate official support, demand payment, obtain credentials, frighten or harass people, hide unauthorized activity, disrupt work or mislead someone about a real security incident. Do not deploy it on safety-critical, production, medical, industrial or emergency systems. A joke is not permission to interfere with another person’s device or work.
Responsibility and practical risks
You are responsible for choosing an appropriate setting and obtaining permission. Save your work before using fullscreen demonstrations. Misunderstanding a staged screen, closing another application, restarting a device or interrupting real work may cause disruption or data loss. The site is not a backup, security or recovery service. Do not restart or power off a device merely because a fictional screen suggests doing so. Stop immediately if another person is uncomfortable or needs the device.
Fullscreen, movement and leaving a simulation
Fullscreen is a browser display mode and is not a device lock. Use the browser’s normal fullscreen exit control or Escape; F11 may also apply on desktop browsers. Use the browser’s Back button to leave a simulation. Motion controls are available in the accessibility menu. Some keyboard shortcuts are part of the fictional experience. Moving effects, noise, flicker or rapid visual changes may be uncomfortable for some visitors. Use Pause or Reduce motion, avoid effects you find uncomfortable and leave the page when needed. Pausing a demonstration does not pause another application or a genuine operating system update.
Availability and limits of responsibility
The content is provided as available, without a promise of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted operation or compatibility with every device. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the operator disclaims liability for misuse, unauthorized deployment and losses caused by reliance on staged screens, including interruption of work or loss of data. This notice does not exclude responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded, waive mandatory visitor rights or make every possible use legally acceptable. Merely displaying this notice does not settle responsibility for a particular event.
Original icon and third-party rights
The site favicon is an original abstract refresh symbol created for this project. Product names and recognizable interface references identify the subject of a parody or demonstration. Microsoft, Windows and other third-party names, artwork, marks and interface materials remain the property of their respective owners. This site is independent and is not endorsed, certified or operated by Microsoft or another referenced vendor. Changing the favicon does not establish that every existing simulation asset is free of third-party rights. Contact the operator about a specific rights concern.
Privacy and external resources
The homepage uses Google Analytics. Some legacy simulation pages load JavaScript libraries or fonts from external providers. Hosting, analytics and external resource providers may receive connection and browser information and may maintain logs or use cookies under their own policies. The independent accessibility toolbar does not call an external accessibility service. Its preferences are stored in this browser’s local storage and can be removed through Reset preferences or by clearing site data. No claim is made that all browsing is anonymous or free from third-party processing.
Accessibility information
The site includes a locally hosted accessibility toolbar for text enlargement, higher contrast, link emphasis, readable fonts, text spacing and reduced motion. The homepage includes named links, visible keyboard focus, responsive cards and a skip link. Simulation controls provide a way to stop repeated animation and return home. Legacy visual imitations and image-based effects may still present barriers; historical BIOS replicas and simulated terminal output are not equivalent to fully accessible native interfaces. No complete conformance audit has been performed and no AA certification is claimed. To report a barrier, include the page, device, browser, assistive technology if relevant and a short description. We will review requests and consider an accessible alternative.
